Children with autism are at especially high risk for drowning. In 2009- 2011, accidental drowning accounted for 91% of total U.S. deaths reported in children with ASD ages 14 and younger. This high mortality rate is due to their tendency to wander or elope, paired with their fascination with water.
Therefore, it is imperative that children with autism learn to survive in the water. This population learns best with specialized techniques that make it easier for them to learn. Through the "Swimming with Autism" course, I have learned these unique teaching skills and am excited to serve these special children.
